Directions to the campground: From Lexington: I1-75 south 83 miles to London. Take exit 41 or 38 to Daniel Boone Parkway east, towards Hazard. Go 44 miles to Hyden Spur exit to Tim Couch Pass-KY Hwy 118. Go 4 miles to KY 421/80, turn west and continue on KY 521/80 13 miles to KY Hwy 1482. Turn right and continue on Hwy 1482 9 miles to KY 484. Turn right on KY 484 and go 7 miles to the Leatherwood Recreation Area. Approximately 29 miles from Hyden. From Hazard: Daniel Boone Parkway west toward London, 19 miles to Hyden Spur (Tim Couch Pass - KY HWY 118) exit to Hyden. Follow directions above.

Campground Desciption and details: Leatherwood Recreation Area, located on Buckhorn Lake, is your center of outdoor recreation activities in the Cumberland Plateau of southeast Kentucky. The Leatherwood Recreation area is located near the small community of Saul, Kentucky. Buckhorn Lake offers hunting, fishing, boating, camping, hiking, etc. on this flood control project. The Leatherwood Recreation Area is located only minutes from other southeast Kentucky attractions such as Buckhorn Log Church, Natural Bridge State Resort Park, Lilley Cornett Woods, Red River Gorge Geological Area, Carr Creek Lake and the Daniel Boone National Forest. Additionally, the nearby cities of Saul, Chavies, Buckhorn, Booneville, Hazard, Jackson, Hyden, etc. host annual festivals in the spring, summer and fall each year. The Leatherwood Recreation Area offers one reservable day use picnic shelter. Electric and water are not available. Other amenities include a boat ramp, pit toilets, horseshoe pits, a play area, a courtesy dock and a fishing area. A post office is located in nearby Saul. Reservations must be made at least 4 day in advance. There are no electrical hook-ups at this campground. Please bring your own drinking water. This is a Day-use area.
