Campground Desciption and details: Labrador The Big Land is one of the last unspoiled wilderness areas left to be explored. Labrador has an area of 294,330 square kilometers and a Population of only 32,000 people. It is the home of the largest caribou herd in the world, with a population of over 700,000 animals. These animals migrate into the Labrador West area during the winter to feed. This is an excellent opportunity for hunting or for taking pictures. Wolves are often sighted during the day time and on clear nights it is common to hear the sound of wolves howling. During the past 4 years of operations we have seen thousands of caribou and the amount of caribou here this year had the highway blocked for 2 hours at one crossing and it was such an event that it was on the National news. Grand Hermine Adventures offers many outdoor Adventures for the outdoor enthusiasts. If you would like to see one of the last great wilderness areas by snowmobile come to Labrador and let us help you experience a thrill of a lifetime, for the hunter it is a hunter's paradise and for the snowmobiler there's just endless miles of unforgettable snowmobiling. We will be offering snowmobile tours in the Labrador West area. There are over 700 kilometers of groomed trails and thousands of miles of wilderness areas with a mixture of marked, ungroomed trails and hundreds of miles of lakes and river systems that see very little activity. Labrador has one of the longest snowmobile seasons in all of North America, starting in December and ending in April, making it a snowmobilers paradise. Labrador West is situated near the largest caribou herd in the world. These animals number about 800,000 and growing. Each year the caribou migrate to this area for their winter-feeding area and each year hunters are able to access this migration of caribou with the use of trucks. We are able to use trucks during the months of October November and up until the end of December and then starting in January we use trucks and snowmobiles in search of these animals. In November and December we use snowmobiles only to transport the caribou back to your vehicle. Grande Hermine Adventures will do everything possible to make your trip a successful and an enjoyable one. Nonresident caribou hunters are entitled to two (2) Caribou per license. There was a lots of Caribou here last year making for a successful hunt and there was plenty here in 2003. This made for a good year hunting with all hunters having tagged out. The caribou migrate south to their winter feeding grounds, here in Labrador west and the caribou mate or (Rut) during this migration usually in October . Starting this season we will also be offering wolf hunting, wolf packs follow the caribou as they travel southward. Wolves have seen very light hunting pressure in this area. We are able to accommodate bow hunters, black powder, musket and rifle hunters.
