Campground Desciption and details: The award-winning Yogi Bear Jellystone Park in Cherokee, North Carolina, Rookie of the Year for 1998 and Excellence Awards for 1998 through 2002. Located deep in the Great Smoky Mountains. We are just 6 ½ miles from the southern terminus of the Blue Ridge Parkway and the southern entrance to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The campground is heavily wooded, and nestled on 106 acres 8 miles from downtown Cherokee off Big Cove Road. Yogi in the Smokies has 200 campsites, with 39 water and electric sites along our more than 1500 feet of frontage on the beautiful Raven Fork River, with its source in the national park. The Raven Fork is open for fishing and is stocked with trout twice a week by the Tribal Fish & Game Management. We sell the necessary tribal fishing permits. Fish or tube right from your site. There are 30 sites with sewer hook-up (sorry only one sewer hook-up is available on our riverside campsites). We also offer primitive sites for those who want just to be with nature, or if you prefer, rent a comfortable cabin. We have an array of facilities to accommodate almost every taste no matter what your preference includes. We have planned activities, special event weekends, clean modern restrooms, and Yogi Bear himself. There is a playground area, a 30 by 60 ft heated swimming pool (Open daily May 23 – September 1, Weekends only May 3 - 18 & Sept 5 -28), game room, theatre, laundry, dump station, PLUS a well-stocked campstore to take home unique Yogi merchandise for lasting memories. Open campfires are permitted in fire rings and we sell dry firewood (campers are reminded that wood gathering of any kind is not permitted. All property surrounding the Campground is private; please respect our neighbors). The nights here in the mountains can get quite cool, even in mid-summer, so please bring warm clothing and blankets. Once at Yogi in the Smokies, hike or bike to 200’ Mingo Falls, one of Western North Carolina’s best waterfalls. On the Reservation, you can take the kids to Cherokee Fun Park or Santa’s Land Theme Park and Zoo (discount tickets available at camp store). Tap your toes to great country music at the Smoky Mountain Jamboree, shop for gifts and souvenirs and have your photo taken with a Cherokee “chief”. Try your hand at Tribal bingo or Harrah’s Cherokee Casino. Cultural attractions include one of the leading outdoor dramas in the United States “Unto These Hills”, the totally renovated Museum of the Cherokee Indian, and The Oconaluftee Indian Village that re-creates Cherokee life as it was 250 years ago. The Blue Ridge Parkway, the most scenic drive in America, starts right here in Cherokee and is full of places to discover. Cherokee is also at the entrance to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. While in the park, saddle up at Smokemont Riding Stables, enjoy the panoramic views from Clingman’s Dome, visit the Mountain Farm Museum, or choose from over 800 miles of hiking trails including the Appalachian Trail. Yogi in the Smokies also makes a perfect base camp for day trips in all directions; Asheville (Biltmore Estate and farmers market), Maggie Valley (Ghost Town in the Sky, golfing, and antiquing), Franklin (ruby mining), Bryson City (Great Smoky Mountain Railway, national park hiking trails, and horse back riding), Nantahala Gorge (white water rafting, kayaking, mountain biking, and hiking), Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge and Sevierville, Tennessee (Dollywood, Dixie Stampede, Comedy Barn Theatre, Govenor’s Palace Theatre, Outlet Mall Shopping, Louise Mandrell Theatre, golfing, Roaring Fork Motor Trail, and Craft Community). If you’ve stayed with us before, we look forward to seeing you again. If you’ve never enjoyed the Yogi Bear experience, we hope 2003 will be the year we can help you make a wonderful family memory!
