Directions to the campground: From Columbus, Ohio take I-71 north to the Polaris Exit (Exit #121). Turn right on Polaris Parkway. Turn left on Worthington Road. Turn left on Africa Road. Turn left on Lewis Center Road. Shelters are in the Below Dam Area.
Campground Desciption and details: Alum Creek Lake is located in Delaware County, Ohio, north of the City of Columbus. There are two picnic shelters in the Below Dam Area. In addition to the shelters, other amenities in the recreation area include: flush toilets, drinking water, playgrounds, grills, and fishing access. There are also non-reservable picnic tables and grills outside of the shelters available on a first come, first serve basis. The Corps of Engineers Visitor Center is located a short driving distance from the shelters. Exhibits, maps and brochures can be found at the visitor center. Facilities at adjacent Alum Creek State Park include a 3000' swimming beach, a marina which offers a variety of boat rentals, hiking, mountain biking and horseback trails, and a 297 site campground. Attractions near the lake include the Columbus Zoo, the Center of Science and industry (COSI), Olentangy Indian Caverns, the Polaris Fashion Place Mall and Polaris Amphitheater. For information contact the Alum Creek Lake Project Office (Visitor Center) at 740-548-6151. Important Information Reservations must be made at least 2 days in advance. Any request to reserve a shelter for the following type events will also require a SPECIAL EVENTS PERMIT: 1.) Open to the public event. 2.) An event where fees are charged for any reason. 3.) An event involving a commercial promotion. Please contact the Corps office at 740-548-6151 to obtain an application or for more information.
